FGV and Financial Times debate the Brazilian economy

##FGV and the Financial Times realized a roundtable focused on the theme “Reinventing Brazil”, to debate the present economic situation and the paths that should be taken in the post-recession period. The meeting happened on April 27th in Sâo Paulo, bringing together representatives from both institutions and some of the primary CEOs and executives of the country. ## The event counted with the participation of the Director of FGV Projetos, Cesar Cunha Campos, the Director of the Center on World Economy and ex-President of the Central Bank, Carlos Geraldo Langoni, the Director of the Financial Times office in Brazil, Joe Leahy, the Director of the FT in Latin America and the Caribbean, John Moncure, aside from the president and CEO of General Electric Brazil, Gilberto Peralta, the President of the telephone company Vivo, Eduardo Navarro, the CEO of the airline company TAM, Claudia Sender, the President of Petrobras, Pedro Parente, and the Co-Founder of the Grupo ABC, one of the largest communication groups in Latin America, Nizan Guanes. Cesar Cunha Campos pointed to the success of the partnership between FGV and Financial Times, which began in 2014 with the development of the Brazil Competitive Profile. According to him, Brazil is experiencing a moment of transition in which it is placing in practice its important structural reforms and creating a foundation for a new economic cycle. Because of this, he stated, the opportunity to discuss Brazil´s development with such a prestigious group of economic leaders is indispensable. Carlos Geraldo Langoni presented a brief panorama of Brazil´s current macroeconomic conditions and pointed to the recovery of the economy. In line with Langoni´s observations, the expectation is that the primary drivers of the recovery process will be investment in infrastructure, primarily through concessions and privatization, trade openness and export beyond Mercosur. Each of the executives and CEOs present shared Langoni´s views on the current economic situation and the challenges and opportunities regarding the operations of their businesses and activity sectors. The debate also included an exchange of constructive ideas regarding the future of Brazil. The debates held at the roundtable will serve as information for the final Financial Times Reinventing Brazil report, which will be launched internationally on May 16th in the Global Print edition of the Financial Times and will also be available online. FGV and Financial Times also realize the annual event World Economy in Brazil annually, in New York, in partnership with the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce (Brazilcham). This year´s edition will be on May 15th. The event focuses its debate on the Brazilian economy in the global arena.
