FGV Europe participates in the International Mission to implement a monitoring technology in Mariana watershed
From August 18 to 23 the municipality of Alta Floresta (Mato Grosso), through the startup from Mato Grosso Amazon.lab, received the delegation participating in the "International Mission Germany / Alta Floresta-Brazil". The objective was to establish a network of partner institutions to consolidate a watershed monitoring services platform as an environmental management strategy.
The meeting was attended by representatives of large German companies, EULA.IT and FGV Europe, together with GOV.BR, Embrapa Territorial, as well as representatives of the Executive Power and agents of the "Olhos D'água" Project in the Amazon and of the cooperation of the Agenda 2030. The meeting continued throughout the week with technical visits in all areas that have already been recovered and those that are still being recovered, following the third phase of the "Olhos D'água" Project in the Amazon.
“The Brazil-Germany mission in Alta Floresta was strategic because it involved several institutions converging to implement monitoring technologies in the Mariana watershed, where the water that is consumed by the Alta Floresta population comes from. The articulation of Amazon.Lab, which is a hub of territorial intelligence based in Alta Floresta, was fundamental in making this mission possible. Alta Floresta City Hall and local institutions have been cooperating to build partnerships through initiatives with Germany, promoting environmental management in Alta Floresta." Jose Alesando Rodrigues, Director of the "Olhos D'água" Project in the Amazon, Municipal Secretariat of the Environment, said.
The European group participated in meetings to get to know all stages of the "Olhos D'água" Project in the Amazon. They presented their proposals and listened to the engagement of the company Iguá (responsible for water collection, treatment and distribution in the municipality), the involvement of the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat) and Instituto Centro e Vida (ICV). After the meetings, they undertook on-site visits to the Water Capture Station, model units of the "Olhos D'água" Project in the Amazon and the spring waters of the "Adopt One Spring Water Project".
The Executive Manager of the Basic Sanitation task force of FGV Projetos, Rosane Coelho da Costa, as well as the consultant of FGV Europe, Marco Contardi, participated in the group contributing to the technical knowledge for a study to be developed for the preservation of the Amazon rainforest in the Municipality, as well as the restoration of the riparian forests and the spring waters of the Mariana Basin and Teles Pires, with the aim of ensuring environmental sustainability and water security for multiple water use.
During her presentations, Rosane highlighted the relevance of the contributions of the private concessionaire Águas de Alta Floresta (of the Iguá Saneamento Group) to the development of studies and pilot projects.
In a second stage, a technical mission will be held from 23.09 to 03.10 in Germany, in the context of City-to-City cooperation between representatives of Alta Floresta Government, civil society, private enterprises and technical consultants with those from the municipality of Eschweiler for the joint development of initiatives in landscape connectivity planning and pilot projects for urban green infrastructure.
