Round-table FGV and Financial Times debates ‘Brazil: The Road Ahead’

##Once again the FGV joined the Financial Times in holding a round-table on the theme _Brazil: The Road Ahead_, dedicated to discussing the current economic situation in Brazil and investments in infrastructure. The meeting, which took place in São Paulo on the 29th of August, brought together representatives of both institutions and some of Brazil’s leading executives and CEOs.##

Attending the event were the FGV director Cesar Cunha Campos; the director of the FGV’s Center of World Economic and former President of the Central Bank, Carlos Geraldo Langoni; the head of the Financial Times (FT) office in Brazil, Joe Leahy; the director of the FT for Latin America and the Caribbean, John Moncure; and the FT correspondent in Brazil, Andres Schipani, in addition to the CEO of Cosan, Marcos Lutz; the CEO of UBS in Brazil, Sylvia Coutinho; and the representative of the Paul Hastings office in Brazil, Roberta Bassegio.

Cesar Cunha Campos underscored the success of the partnership between the FGV and the FT, which started in 2014 with the publishing of the _Brazil Competitive Profile_. He remarked that it is essential to discuss the role played by investment in infrastructure in the country and the importance of the area for Brazil’s economy and society, stressing that lately we have been experiencing a positive reaction on the part of the market to the government’s announcing of the new program of privatizations and concessions.

Carlos Geraldo Langoni gave a short summary of the macro-economic conditions in Brazil and described the gradual revival of the country’s economic sectors. He defended macro-economic sustainability as a _sine qua non_ for the success of the new program of privatizations and concessions.

Each one of the executives and CEOs shared their opinions on the present economic state of affairs and prospects concerning the program of privatizations and concessions in the infrastructure sector. The debate also enjoyed an exchange of constructive ideas on the future of Brazil.

The proposals presented at this round-table served as input for the Financial Times report entitled _Brazil: The Road Ahead_, due for an international launch in New York on the 20th of September, during the event _Brazil: The Road Ahead – Driving Growth Through Investment in Infrastructure_, sponsored – among other institutions – by _FGV Projetos_. The report will be published in the FT’s global printed edition and will also be available on the site of the newspaper.
