Roundtable: Brazil’s Amazon rainforest crisis and Alta Floresta | Berlin

In light of the current crisis in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, the Brazilian Economic Center (CEBRAS) in Berlin organized a roundtable with German and Brazilian representatives from diverse organizations based in the German capital.

FGV Europe, together with a delegation from the small Amazonian city of Alta Floresta, presented a comprehensive first-hand account of the steps that have been taken at both national and local levels since international media started reporting about the wildfires a couple of weeks ago.

Together, they told the story of a local community that decided to become a global example for the fight against deforestation and climate change, long before the fires claimed international attention.
FGV Europe has been accompanying the city of Alta Floresta since 2015 and actively supports their ambitious goal to turn Alta Floresta into a laboratory for sustainable urban development in the Amazon. Among the most important fruits of this work has been the climate partnership with the city of Eschweiler, NRW.
