Amazon bioeconomy funding to be discussed in webinar in Amazon Dialogues series

The event is part of the Amazon Dialogues, a digital platform to discuss topics related to sustainable socioeconomic development.

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Sao Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) is holding a free webinar on May 2, at 7 pm, called “Financing the Bioeconomy in the Amazon.” The event is part of the Amazon Dialogues, a digital platform to discuss topics related to sustainable socioeconomic development in the Brazilian Amazon with the whole of society. Last year, there were 20 meetings, and this will be the second webinar of 2022.

The transition to a low-carbon economy requires a shift in funding to pay for sustainable investment projects. Only in this way will Brazil be able to achieve the goals established at international climate change forums. In this context, one major challenge is to promote the bioeconomy and sustainable economic activities in the Brazilian Amazon. Accordingly, this edition of the Amazonian Dialogues will discuss how development banks, which have a strong presence in the region, are contributing to this important process.

The speakers will be Valdecir Tose, the president of Banco da Amazônia; and Nabil Moura Kadri, the head of the Amazon Fund’s Environment and Management Department at the national development bank, BNDES. The moderators will be Márcio Holland, the coordinator of FGV’s Finance and Economics Master’s Program; and Daniel Vargas, FGVAgro’s research director.
