As a gateway for the transfer of knowledge and innovation between Brazil and the world, FGV Europe manages a broad network of national and international professionals, experts and researchers, whose work contributes directly or indirectly to its advisory activities.

Our multidisciplinary and multilingual team combines management skills, industry knowledge and access to decision makers, with an in-depth understanding of different political contexts, and the capacity to mediate between business cultures.

FGV’s experts and research staff support our project development, research and advisory services. These professionals cover a wide range of sectors and industries, travel frequently to work with clients all over the world and participate in international events and policy networks.

Artur Sgambatti Monteiro

Professional Fellow

Having worked in various fields related to environmental management, Artur Monteiro’s experience ranges from oil spills monitoring and remediation, sustainable architecture, urban and territorial planning to socio-environmental conflicts. Currently, he develops projects concerning the better understanding of international cooperation towards the conservancy of the Brazilian Amazon, especially considering GHG emissions goals, economic alternatives and civil society resilience. Before this post, he worked with land use policies in the Amazon rainforest, water management and threatened species conservation at the Fundação Vitória Amazônica in Manaus/Brazil.  

Artur has also worked with the Angolan government for a joint national effort on sustainable cities and for the Sustainability Team of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games Organizing Committee in Rio de Janeiro.  

He holds a Masters Degree in Urbanism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Management from the University of São Paulo.

Anastasia Patsouri

Professional Fellow

Anastasia is a Development Economist and Data Analyst, creating synergies between Academia, Institutions and Business. Experienced in the Tech Industry, International Relations and Academia, Anastasia promotes sustainable development and innovation implementation through her work.
After working in the private sector as a Data Analyst in the German Market and as a Business Development Manager in the Greek Market for sustainable and innovative mobility, Anastasia is currently in the making of her Ph.D. on the impact of entrepreneurial innovation on sustainable development for the cases of Brazil, Germany and Greece. Her vision is to promote sustainable development through inclusive stakeholder engagement in economic systems. She holds a Diploma in Economic Science as well as a Master of Science in Environmental, Disaster and Crisis Management Strategies both from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

André Coelho

Senior Project Manager

André Coelho is a Senior Project Manager, specialized in solutions related to public and private management with extensive experience in executive consulting of advanced research projects and public policies' evaluation within FGV's operational portfolio. He has experience as executive coordinator for several development plans related to the social impacts and sustainability, either in the technical infrastructure or in the context of economic studies and as International Outreach in New York. Specialist in Tourism Impacts, Global Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility and Agenda 2030. Coordinated technical and operational teams throughout Brazil, including a portfolio of activities in the Amazon region and international projects. 

He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Public Policy at the Brazilian Federal University Economics Department, Holds a Masters in Public Management from the Brazilian School of Public and private Administration (EBAPE/FGV), Specialization in Global Governance from the German Development Institut (DIE, Bonn), Specialization in Sustainable Governance from the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS, Postdam) and undergraduate in History from Fluminense Federal University in Brazil.

Andrea Raccichini

Junior Project Manager

Andrea joined FGV in 2014, where he develops activities to support project implementation, project design and preparation, analysis and reporting, diagnostics, publications, business models, new methodologies and tools, benefit assessment, financing, market analysis and stakeholder engagement. His main areas of activity are: sustainable development, innovation, energy, strategic planning, territorial governance, corporate sustainability and Smart Cities. Master in Public Policy, Strategies and Development (PPED) from the Institute of Economics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Master in Finance, Intermediates and Markets from Alma Mater Studiorum of the University of Bologna. Bachelor of Business Administration from the same Italian university.

Antonio Carlos Passos de Carvalho

Professional Fellow

Antonio Carvalho holds a Master's degree from The George Washington University in Political Management with foci in global politics, strategy and governance.  He is experienced in the public sector at the national and sub-national levels, as well as in the private sector.  He is a passionate in the field of energy transitions and sustainable development.

Antonio lived several years in Washington DC where he worked as a consultant for the World Bank in the use of Information and Communication Technologies in Post-Conflict/Low-Capacity countries, and other consulting jobs. He was a fellow of the Center for International Development and Conflict Management of the University of Maryland.

At the sub-national level Antonio was the CIO of the State of Minas Gerais and the CEO of Prodemge, the State Information Technology Corporation responsible for the major state systems and databases. Previously he was vice-president of MGI, a holding company affiliated to the State Finance Secretariat.  He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Helibrás, the Brazil-based helicopter manufacturer, subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters.

Antonio was a Diplomatic Attaché at the Embassy of Brazil in Lisbon and at the Brazilian Mission to The Organization of American States (O.A.S.), as an advisor to the Ambassador.

He served in the Brazilian Navy where he retired in the rank of Commander (Fregattenkapitän).  Amongst his assignments, he was the Aide-de-Camp to the President of Brazil.

Cleber Lima Guarany

Project Manager | Agribusiness, Agriculture, Clean Energy, Financial Structuring

He is the project coordinator of FGV Europe and currently leads the financial structuring of projects in the agricultural and industrial sectors, such as: the Green Imperative Project in Nigeria, with total investments of US$ 1.1 billion; the nitrogen fertilizer plant in Brazil with total investments of $ 1.7 billion; as well as, the iron and steel complex in Argentina, with total investments of US $ 200 million. As project coordinator, he has also structured the implementation of industrial and agricultural projects in more than 18 countries in Latin America and Africa, always in partnership with local companies, associations, multilateral development banks, research institutions and funding institutions. Moreover, he led the implementation of the Brazil-United States Memorandum of Understanding on Trade in Central America and the Caribbean, signed in 2004. Under Cleber’s leadership, FGV won the “Best Solution” award, of the United Nations in the context of the Global South-South Cooperation in 2012. Postgraduate in Financial Economics and in Marketing, with a business degree in Lausanne, Switzerland. Graduated in Industrial Engineering.

Dr. Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal

President of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV)

Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the School of Engineering of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a master’s in Mathematical Economics from the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and PhD in Economics from Princeton University, USA.

He was a professor at FGV’s EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (FGV EPGE), in Rio de Janeiro, from 1986 to 1997, director of FGV-Business from 1992 to 1997, general director of EPGE from 1994 to 1997, and vice-president of FGV from 1997 to 2000. He is currently the president of Fundação Getulio Vargas and also a member of several boards of directors.

Dr. Cesar Cunha Campos

Director of FGV Europe

Dr. Cesar Cunha Campos has been a director of Fundação Getulio Vargas since 2003. Firstly as director of FGV Projetos and, from 2016 until the present moment, as director of FGV Europe. 

From 2003 to 2018, as executive director of FGV Projetos, the technical advisory unit of Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), he coordinated a team of more than 300 specialists working in various areas of knowledge, such as economy, finance, management, and public policy.

Currently, as director of FGV Europe, Dr. Cunha Campos is responsible for the implementation and management of the first international office of FGV, the FGV Europe. The office establishes international relationships with global agents from the public and private sectors and develops international studies and projects. Moreover, he has developed projects for top Brazilian private and public corporations, especially feasibility studies for raising funds with major banks and development agencies, such as BNDES, IBRD, and IDB. Dr. Cunha Campos also undertook several international projects, and since 2010 he represents FGV, as a knowledge partner of OCDE.

He has a degree in Civil Engineering from Pontificia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), a master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Business Administration from London Business School, and a Ph.D. in Transportation Planning from Technische Universität Wien, Austria.

Francisco Torres de Sá

Advisor of Finance and Compliance

Francisco Torres has a post-graduate degree in Production Engineering/Industrial Projects from the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Engineering Research at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ) and a bachelor’s degree in Economic Sciences from the Faculty of Economics and Administration at the UFRJ (FEA/ UFRJ).

He worked as a consultant in the development, management and in the implementation of consulting projects in the public and private sectors. From 2003 to 2019 he worked as a Project Manager, Deputy Project Director and Quality Director at FGV Projetos (Technical Advisory Unit of FGV). Currently, Francisco is the Head of Quality and Administration of FGV Europe.

Giuliano Marchini Senatore

Project Technical Coordinator | Agriculture and Regional Development

Giuliano Senatore joined FGV in 2007 and is currently the technical coordinator and team leader of all FGV´s international projects related to agriculture and regional development, having worked in several countries of the African Continent and Latin America as: Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Senegal, Guinea, Liberia, Zambia, Cape Verde, Malawi, Nigeria, Haiti, Saint Kitts & Nevis, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay and Argentina. Brazilian agronomist engineer with master’s degree in Agronomy (area of concentration agricultural machinery). Specialized in Project Design and Project Implementation with expertise in Economic and Social Development. Giuliano coordinated the technical development of projects such as the Green Imperative Project in Nigeria, Agriculture Development Master Plan for the Nacala Corridor in Mozambique (ProSAVANA), Mozambican Agricultural Mechanization Program, IDB's Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Initiative (SECCI) and others. With experience in all stages of project development and implementation, Giuliano was responsible for the development of training and capacity building programs successfully applied in Mozambique and Paraguay, focusing on the adoption of agricultural and agro-processing technology by small scale farmers.

Hannes Schwertfeger

Professional Fellow

Hannes Schwertfeger is an architect and theorist, focusing on the implementation of green infrastructure into buildings, cities and urban areas to enhance the value and amenities of our built environment. He has been trained in Kassel, Stuttgart, Delft, Rotterdam and Mexico City, holding a diploma degree in architecture from the University of Stuttgart. He is alumnus of the DAAD, the BW-Stipendium and the Academic Scholarship Program of the Ev. Studienwerk Villigst. His research examines the potential of architecture in theory and practice, to make green infrastructure understandable and accessible to decision makers, stakeholders, residents and other users. Currently he is running his office Bureau Baubotanik together with his partner Oliver Storz in Stuttgart.

José Roberto Afonso

Senior Consultant

Kathrin Zeller

Professional Fellow

Kathrin Zeller is an economist with a focus on sustainable development and international cooperation. After several years of experience in global sustainable development cooperation, she currently lives and works in Rio de Janeiro as a network manager for the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. She holds a Master's degree from the University of Cologne in Regional Sciences of Latin America with a focus on economic and social policy, as well as an MBA from Leuphana University Lüneburg in sustainability management. Currently she is enrolled as a doctoral student within the Ph.D. Program Environmental Economics and Sustainability at the Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Oldenburg in Germany. Her research examines the role of global networks on sustainable development, especially analysing the role of city networks.

Larissa Magalhães

Professional Fellow

Larissa is a researcher in Digital Policies, Data, and Democracy at CyberBRICS, Faculty of Law of the Getulio Vargas Foundation, Rio de Janeiro. Her research is located between ​​government technology and innovation, with a special focus on open data, smart cities, and political implications. Larissa holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the State University of Campinas and analyzed open government in the city of São Paulo. She was a fellow of the Future Leaders in the Americas and Caribbean Program, as a visiting researcher at the University of Montreal. Larissa has a post-doctorate from the Institutional Program for Internationalization in Data Science in Social Sciences of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, School of Social Sciences. She was also involved with the Rio Doce Basin Rehabilitation and Environmental Disaster Network when she did a postdoc in Sociology. Larissa accumulated activities as a fellow at the Southern Cyber ​​School on Internet Governance of the Organization of American States, a researcher in city connectivity infrastructure at FGV Europe, consultant for the Regional Open Data Barometer for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin American Initiative of Los Datos Abiertos.

Letícia Duarte

Administrative and Quality Coordinator

She joined Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in 2003, working for about 12 years as Quality Manager at FGV Projetos, whose main tasks was to ensure compliance with the processes associated with the formulation of products and services and proposals development; maintaining the collection of projects developed; preparing management reports; and maintaining the graphic quality of the reports. BA in Economic Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, having graduated in 1998. She worked at the Administrative Center of Banco do Brasil S/A and at “Pacto Consultoria Associada Ltda.” as an economist.

Luiz Gustavo

Executive Manager

Luiz Gustavo is an Executive Manager with extensive experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and developing projects for the public and private sectors. Specific expertise in social-economic impacts, including SAM (Social Accounting Matrix) and complex economic models for scenario construction and measurement of public policies, tourism business chains, master plans and international research. Among the influential organizations where projects were developed are the World Bank, Interamerican Development Bank, OECD, World Tourism Organization, Brazilian Federal Government, State and city governments, etc.

Luiz Gustavo holds a Ph.D. in Business Management from Nottingham University, Masters in Business from Nottingham University, and an undergraduate in Economics from Fluminense Federal University in Brazil. Additionally, he holds an invited Professor position at the Executive Professional Master's in Business Management - Brazilian School of Public and private Administration (EBAPE/FGV).

M. Jose Cortes Area

Project Manager

Jose is an international consultant and has participated in numerous local and regional economic development projects. He has lectured at conferences and meetings in Paraguay, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Argentina in various panels as an exhibitor. Currently, Jose also serves as a consultant for several private companies. He was a full-time professor at the National University of La Plata and as an evaluator of the National Commission for University Assessment and Accreditation (CONEAU) for postgraduate studies. Graduated in Social Communication and Journalism from the National University of La Plata (Argentina), holds a master's degree in Digital Communication from the University of the Balearic Islands (Spain) and a master's degree in Business Administration from the Torcuato Di Tella University (Argentina). He also took negotiation courses at Harvard Faculty Club (Boston - USA).

Marco Contardi

Project Manager | Sustainability and Urban Development

Marco Contardi joined FGV in 2015 and is currently project coordinator at FGV Europe, where he works in the areas of sustainability and urban development. Prior to that, he worked at FGV Projetos, coordinating urban development, social responsibility and PPPs projects for public services. He began his career at the German company Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and was a senior consultant at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), where he supported the drafting of the PPP Law and the PPP Pilot Program from the Federal Government of Brazil on the North-South Railroad project. Marco also worked as a senior researcher at the Lombardy Region Research Institute in Italy, where he conducted research in the areas of territorial development, climate change and infrastructure financing. Master in Economics from Luigi Bocconi University of Milan, Italy. He has completed courses at the World Bank on Infrastructure and Development and Financial Analysis for Infrastructure Projects and at Partnership UK (UK PPP) on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in the United Kingdom.

Marco Saverio Ristuccia

Project Manager | Infrastructure and Green Technologies

Marco Ristuccia joined FGV in 2011 and is currently project coordinator at FGV Europe, where he works in infrastructure and green technologies for sustainable development. Prior to that, he worked as a project coordinator at FGV Projetos, focusing on Smart Cities and technological innovation, infrastructure and utility management and financing, PPP projects, corporate social responsibility and structuring company-territory relationships for “value creation” in the energy sector. Prior to that, he worked as an analyst in the economic and financial assessment of the investment risk profile for ENI, Dexia-Crediop, BNL-Paribas and Invitalia, and in the technical consulting sector in Italy (Éupolis Lombardia, Quesire srl, Struttura srl, Cles srl, Italian Consiglio per le Scienze Sociali, Federculture, Openeconomics). Master in Economic Sciences and graduated in Economics from the Universitá La Sapienza of Rome (Italy). Specialized in Probabilistic Mathematics for financial risk control.

Mariana Fleischhauer Corrêa da Costa

Manager of Representation Office

Mariana joined FGV in 2021 and is currently the Manager of Representation Office at FGV Europe, responsible for coordinating its activities and managing institutional relationships with partners and clients from the public and private sectors. Previously, Mariana worked as a sales manager in the sectors of digitalization, IT solutions, and industry 4.0 working with enterprises in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. From 2015 to 2019, she worked as an international consultant advising European and Latin-American companies and institutions on the topics of internationalization, competitiveness, marketing, and public relations. She is also the author of studies in the fields of econometrics, social capital, and internationalization strategies.

 

Master in International Business (M.A.) with emphasis on market entry strategies in Latin America from the Cologne Business School, Germany. She graduated in Economics (B.Sc.) from the Fluminense Federal University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mariana is fluent in German, Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

Paul Thomas Woodhouse

Marketing and Communications Assistant

Thomas joined FGV Europe in 2020 as an intern to support our management team in the development of our office in Germany and to assist our experts in ongoing projects. In 2021 he played a key role in establishing our social media presence.
Currently, he oversees our communication channels in close coordination with the management team out of Cologne.

He studies Business Administration at the University of Cologne and is a junior trainer for Agile/Lean working methodologies. He is fluent in German, Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Pedro Trengrouse

Lawyer | Investment and corporate affairs in sports

Pedro Trengrouse is a lawyer, go-to specialist for investment and corporate affairs in sports, whose career has focused on advising the private and public sector in key policies and initiatives related to new technologies and innovative approaches to Sport as a tool for human, social and economic development. He is the Academic Coordinator of the FGV/FIFA/CIES Programme on Sports Management at Fundação Getulio Vargas and Fall 2014 Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School, tethered directly to Professor Charles Nesson, Weld Professor of Law, Faculty Co-Director, Berkman Center for Internet and Society. He served the United Nations as UNDP Consultant on matters related to the FIFA World Cup 2014 and is also a Trusted Advisor to institutions and corporations such as COB, CPB, CBF, CBV, CBB, CBCa, CBSurf, Ab-Inbev, Globo amongst others. He is a FIFA Master laureate and holds a certificate on Casino Regulations from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, being the first Brazilian admitted at the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA). The FIFA Corporate Social Responsibility department and the FIFA Foundation were created in line with the recommendations made in his FIFA Master thesis, published by SDA Bocconi and regarded as a reference to the field by the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace.

Ralph Stock

Legal Advisory Services

Ralph has served as legal advisor to FGV Europe since 2016. Based in Cologne, he has worked as a lawyer since 1991, focusing on bilateral relations between Brazil and Germany. He is the founder of Brazil Business Centre Cologne. Ralph is also an entrepreneur in the hotel and real estate areas.

Sara Pais

Manager of International Affairs

Sara joined FGV in 2014 and is currently the Manager of International Affairs at FGV Europe, responsible for expanding the unit's international operations in scope and depth, setting business objectives, implementing activities and monitoring and evaluating results.

Prior to this role, she was the technical advisor to the executive director of FGV Projetos, developing strategic analyses and coordinating key relationships with stakeholders, with a special focus on the unit's international operations. Prior to that, she worked at the Sustainable Development Vice-Presidency at the World Bank in Washington D.C, USA.

Master in Business Administration (MBA) from ESADE Business School, Barcelona, Spain and graduate in Business Administration from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, Portugal. Sara is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian.

Vitor Sawczuk

Project Manager | Financial Structuring, Exports and Imports, Risk assessment

Vitor worked with Export Credit Insurance for 18 years with the main focus to enable financing for Brazilian exports, through credit analyses from imports in the sectors of infrastructure, aviation, capital goods (machinery and equipment), transport (buses and trucks), defence, project financing, as well as, financing for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise.

Throughout his career, Vitor has developed several relationships with various Federal Government institutions, such as, Ministry of Finance, Treasury and Planning, Civil House, Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), Ministry of Defence, Investment Partnerships Program (PPI), Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), and Bank of Brazil (Banco do Brasil). In addition, Vitor has established close relations with international private banks and Brazil’s main Capital Goods and Services exporters and international importers.

He has experience in the financial area, auditing, accounting, structured operations, exports and imports, treasury and cash flow, and risk assessment in large companies. Vitor is an Economist with a postgraduate degree in Finance.
